About Us

More Than 5 Decades of Experience

J & J Rubbish Service Inc. was founded in 1968 by Jim Serva with nothing more than an old pickup truck.  Not long after, he and (then girlfriend) Kathy Walsh married.  With dedication, hard work and lots of sacrifice they began to expand their customer base.   Within a couple years they bought their first garbage truck.  Not long after, Kathy's parents (Joe & Shirley Walsh) were able to join in the business adding a 2nd truck to the daily route.  In later years, Joe fell ill and was unable to continue in the business and later passed away.  Several individuals worked side by side with Jim over the years. The business continued to grow.  In 1994 John Patzner (now the husband of Jim & Kathy's daughter) began to get involved.  He worked side by side with the family, dedicated to them and the industry.  Together they were able to compete in a market that is typically dominated by much larger companies.  Shirley passed in 2003.  Both her and Joe did experience success in the business, but would never have imagined we could grow like we did.  Since that time we have been able to add additional trucks and drivers, expanding to multiple cities along the way.  We employee a team of hard workers that we consider family.  Many have been with us for years.  John & Karla Patzner eventually took over the business in December 2017 from Jim & Kathy Serva, and continue to operate it today.

CUSTOMER CORNER

“These guys at J & J Rubbish Service Inc. have impressed me not once, but twice with great customer service. I'm still getting used to having to roll my trash can out to the curb for the early Wednesday morning pickup. Last week, I rolled it out when they had already passed my house and were halfway down the next block. They saw me and backed the garbage truck all the way back to where I was standing. Excellent first impression. This Wednesday morning, I went to work early and realized that I had forgotten to put out the can. Certain that I had already missed the window but not wanting to give up without trying, I drove back to my house. The can was already out on the curb and had been emptied. These guys must have remembered from last week, and walked up the driveway to fetch the can. Thanks!”
